About Us
Ministries
A variety of ministries are offered in the diocese. The list below contains a short description of each as well as the relevant contact information. Links to a few of the ministries' own websites are also available. Additionally, a list of projects undertaken by individual parishes is available.
Brotherhood of St. Andrew
The Brotherhood of St. Andrew is a missionary and evangelism ministry of the Episcopal Church and Anglican Communion. In fact, it is the oldest evangelistic ministry of the Episcopal Church. Our goal is to bring men and boys to Jesus Christ.
The diocesan chapter is led by Mr. Fred Buechner. He can be contacted at fgbuechner@aol.com.
Camp New Happenings
2008. The mission of the camp is to provide the pre-teen children of prisoners with an opportunity to experience God's gifts of nature, kindness, and togetherness by sharing hopes and dreams within a positive camping experience.
The camp offers a balanced program of music, arts and crafts, water activities, and worship during the daytime and evening. For many of the children, this will be their first opportunity to experience both the wonder of God’s creation and the joy of Christ-centered community.
The camp's project coordinator, Mrs. Charlotte Strowhorn, can be contacted at charlotte1033@sbcglobal.net.
Companeros en Christo
Companeros en Christo (Companions in Christ) is the name our of companion diocese committee. The Diocese of Honduras has been our companion since 1996. Anyone with a heart for mission is welcome to join us. Our mission is to be the hands of Christ in Honduras. We strive to build relationships, share our gifts and to receive the gifts the people of Honduras have to offer.
Recent projects include installing a water treatment plant providing safe water for up to 4,000 people and supporting a health infrastructure project by building efficient stoves, pilas (water cisterns) and a latrine. Over the years we helped to build three churches, a chapel and a day care center - "Los Amiguitos de Jesus". We have donated Bibles, Spanish prayer books, medicine, medical supplies, medical tests, surgery and helped to plant gardens. Reports of two recent trips are available.
To join the Companeros en Christo, please email Tim Skimina at t-skimina@northwestern.edu.
Cursillo
Cursillo means "short course"—in this case, a short course in Christianity. Cursillo includes both a three-day weekend of teaching and fellowship and follow up meetings for encouragement in the Christian journey. It provides a means of finding inspiration and direction for Christian commitment and is designed to help mature people toward a Christian way of life.
Cursillo weekends are held annually at the Wawasee Episcopal Center in Syracuse, Indiana. If you are interested in attending, please complete this application. For more information, please contact the lay directors, Mary Corey at mcorey@iuk.edu or Julie Chandler at julie-chandler@att.net, or the spiritual advisor, the Rev. Michael Fulk, at mtfulk@verizon.net.
Mary gives this testimonial about her experience:
In a world that can often seem cold and uncaring, Cursillo gave me a life line. Cursillo not only can put you back on track with your Spiritual journey through life it can also give you a life-long support group to keep you focused on the track. I have made many life-long friends in the Cursillo movement; some have inspired me by their courage under fire, some have made me laugh – especially at myself; all of them have been there for me when I have needed it the most. We are all in this journey together and we all need to lift each other up. I would highly recommend Cursillo to any one who wants to renew their Christian faith, learn more about the Episcopal Church, and gain a support group of caring, loving friends.

Daughters of the King
The Order of the Daughters of the King is a spiritual sisterhood of women dedicated to a life of Prayer, Service and Evangelism. We have made a commitment to Jesus as our Savior, and we follow Him as Lord of our lives. We are an Order for women who are communicants of the Episcopal Church, churches in communion with it, or churches in the Historic Episcopate. Today our membership includes women in the Anglican, Episcopal, Lutheran (ELCA) and Roman Catholic churches.
Several parishes in our diocese sponsor chapters of the Daughters of the King. Photos from their 2008 Fall Assembly are available.
Episcopal Church Women
Since 1904, the Episcopal Church Women of the Diocese of Northern Indiana has promoted the work of the Church and correlated all women's work in the diocese. All women that are canonically resident in the diocese are eligible for membership. Membership is comprised of women from all ages, ethnic origins, and socio-economic backgrounds.
The work of the Episcopal Church Women begins in the local parish. It extends into the diocese and beyond—to the nation and the entire Anglican Communion—through these programs: the Bishop's Emergency Discretionary Fund, the Memorial Fund (which funds scholarships), the Church Periodical Club, Episcopal Relief & Development, and the United Thank Offering.
The Diocesan Board of the Episcopal Church Women consists of the President, Vice-President, Secretary, Treasurer, the six deanery presidents, Chairman of the Standing Committee and the immediate past president. The Bishop is an ex-officio member of the board. The National Board of the Episcopal Church Women USA is composed of an Executive Committee. The National Board has dual responsibilities: 1) to assist and enable the women of the church to carry out their mission and ministry and 2) to present a Triennial Meeting.
The logo of the Episcopal Church Women is pictured on the left. The cross represents Christ and our service to Him in the world. The circle stands for our hope for wholeness in our lives. The out flowing lines from the center depict the many works of the Episcopal Church Women, going out into the world. The intertwined lines represent our lives centered in Christ.
Please join us in praying for the work of the Episcopal Church Women:
Almighty God, we pray that You will bless our work in mission
and ministry in the world. We give thanks for the gifts of joy
and wonder to be found in Your works. Make us so thankful
for the power of Your love, given through Your Son, Jesus,
that we pray,
labor and give liberally to make known that love throughout the world. Bless us that our lives may shine
forth the joy and wonder we share in Your Name. Amen.

Health Ministry
Health ministry in a local congregation is an intentional ministry focusing on both healing and health, led and coordinated by a parish nurse. It combines the ancient traditions of the Christian community and the knowledge and tools of modern health care. Additional information can also be found at the website of the National Episcopal Health Ministries.
The Howe School
The Howe School in Howe, Indiana, has a historic link to the Diocese of Northern Indiana. A co-educational boarding school for young people from 5th grade through high school, Howe offers an excellent academic education in the context of spiritual and moral development. Its campus features St. James' Chapel, modeled after traditional English collegiate chapels. In the crypt of St. James' rest the first four bishops of the diocese and their spouses, along with many of the founders of Howe Military School.
Reconciliation Team
The Reconciliation Team is a group sponsored by the diocese and is partnered with Reconcilers.net. Its convener, the Rev. Dr. James H. Warnock, can be contacted at frjimwarnock@gmail.com.
Reconcilers.net is a movement of Episcopalians working to impart faith-based reconciliation as both a spirituality and a moral vision for our life together in the Episcopal Church as well as our mission in the twenty-first century.
St. Margaret's House
St. Margaret's House was founded by Deacon Sarah S. Tracy as a joint project of the Episcopal Diocese of Northern Indiana and the Cathedral of St. James. A day center committed to the gospel value of hospitality, St. Margaret's House improves the lives of women and children by providing individual attention to their immediate needs, breaking the bonds of isolation and helping them acquire skills to better their lives.
For more information or to learn how to volunteer, please email smhinfo@sbcglobal.net.
Summer Camp
Bishop Little cites our summer camp program as the diocese's "most important investment" in the work we are to do—"to pass on the Christian faith to the next generation of believers."
The website for the Summer Camp can now be found at: episcopalcamp.wordpress.com.
Wawasee Episcopal Center
Located on the south shore of beautiful Lake Wawasee, the Wawasee Episcopal Center is the year round Conference and Retreat Center of the Diocese of Northern Indiana. All Saints' Episcopal Church is located on the same property. The setting and facilities of the Center lend themselves well for spiritual retreats, vestry retreats, educational conferences, or parish events.
For detailed desciptions of amenities and pricing, as well as images of the Center, please consult this page. The Director, Sharon Katona, can be contacted at treasurer@ednin.org or (574) 360-8534.
Youth Ministry
Youth are encouraged and instructed in various groups and programs in our parishes. They have taken mission trips to places in the Unites States such as Appalachia and abroad to our companion diocese of Honduras. Winter Retreats are regularly held at the Wawasee Conference Center.
