The Diocese of Northern Indiana

Welcome to the 113th Convention

The congregation of the Cathedral of St. James in South Bend, Indiana welcomes you to the 113th Convention of the Diocese of Northern Indiana. The Presiding Bishop, Katherine Jefferts Schori, will be our guest at this convention. Events will begin on Friday, October 14th, with the business session convening that afternoon. The Convention Eucharist will be held on Saturday the 15th. Events will be held both at the Cathedral and at the nearby Century Center.

The Cathedral is located at 117 Lafayette Boulevard just north of Washington Street. The Century Center is three blocks east on St. Joseph Street. For directions, please consult this map. The 1st Convention Packet is available as of August 12th. Please review the information in its entirety before attending convention and bring a hard copy of those materials with you. In addition to hotel information, directions, facility maps, and various forms, it also includes the Bishop's invitation.

The 2nd Convention Packet is available as of September 14th.

The 3rd Convention Packet includes Treasurer's Report, the Proposed Budget for 2012, and the 2010 Parochial Report Data as of October 4th.

Rules

Those wishing to review the rules by which the Convention is governed should consult the following documents: Diocesan Constitution and Canons, Rules of Order, Parliamentary Procedure Guide, and How To Write A Resolution.

Registration, Forms, & Schedules

To register for any of the events (Eucharist, lunch, workshops) on Saturday, please complete this electronic form. Please note that parishes will be receiving checks for meals and sending them as a group to the diocesan office.

Nominees

Nominations are now open. To nominate a person for a seat on the Standing Committee, please use this electronic form.

Biographies of those nominated so far to offices are now available. Persons may still be nominated by their Deanery meeting or from the floor of Diocesan Convention. If you plan on doing so, please use the form, so we can have their information on hand.

Resolutions

Resolution 1 lowers the assessment rate to 15%. Resolution 2 changes how a quorum is counted. Resolutions introduced from the floor must be in writing and will require a 2/3 vote of members of the Convention present in order to be considered, pursuant to Rule of Order 3.b.

Deanery Meetings

The Eastern Deanery will meet at 10:00 AM (EDT) at Trinity, Fort Wayne on Saturday, September 17th.

The Central Deanery Will meet at 2:30 PM (EDT) at St. John the Evangelist, Elkhart on Sunday, September 18th.

The Western Deanery Will meet at 4:00 PM (CDT) at St. Augustine's, Gary on Sunday, September 18th.
